Sachi works at an information technology firm and takes time off from work to attend his sister's wedding. While on leave, he and his girlfriend Vasudha go on a date for her birthday where they encounter Alwin, sitting in a car with Mukundan. Alwin and Mukundan convince Sachi that they are police officers and that he and Vasudha will be arrested if they don't escort them.

While Sachi is restless at home, he decides to take revenge. He goes back to the place where he originally met Alwin and discovers that Alwin is just an ambulance driver and Mukundan is a tailor. Sachi finds Alwin's address and goes to his house while he is away. He is greeted by Alwin's wife, Maria, and his daughter, Mia (Lakshmi Nanda Kishore). He enters the house and makes a scene. When Alwin arrives home, he and Sachi get into a fight, with Sachi breaking Alwin's legs. Sachi attempts to leave but is stopped by a procession on the road. Sachi begins to torture Alwin's wife and daughter in the same way Alwin tortured him and his girlfriend.
Deepika Jayaram of The Times of India rated the movie 3.5 out of 5 stars and wrote, "The film gives a glimpse into the kind of moral policing that many are constantly subjected to, on our streets. It also shows how such experiences get etched into the minds of those who have had to go through such ordeals." Jayaram also praised Shane Nigam and Ann Sheetal's acting.[3]
Ashwin Baradwaj of Lensman rated the movie 4/5 and stated, "Ishq is a good example of how to make a message-oriented film. Apart from a small dialogue from Shane Nigam towards the end of the film, there is hardly any spoon-feeding here and what you get is an impactful cinema powered by solid performance and craft-filled making."[citation needed]
Litty Simon of Manorama Online rated the movie 3.5/5 stars and offered, "Without diverting from its serious note, Ishq wins heart for the subtle nuances through which it tried to differentiate between 'love' and 'passion'."[7]
Cris of The News Minute rated the movie 2/5 stars and said, "The movie begins promisingly enough, becomes a drag after a point and the issue of moral policing that it deals with is not handled well."[9]
Arun Neelakandan, a teenager from Kerala, joins KC Tech, a popular engineering college in Chennai for his graduation. He falls in love with college sweetheart Darshana at the first sight. They grow closer after Arun is ragged by his seniors, but a few scuffles and incidents get the seniors suspended and they start dating. Arun accompanies his friend Antony to meet his online girlfriend, and feels attracted to her colleague. He lies to her, states he is single and they lean in for a kiss but they are interrupted by moral police. A guilt-ridden Arun confesses to Darshana, who lividly calls off the relationship. In the heat of their argument, they challenge each other that they will have other romantic partners better than each other.
The music for the film was composed by Hesham Abdul Wahab. In early 2020, Vineeth went to Istanbul to record pieces of music for the film. Actor Prithviraj Sukumaran has sung a song for the film.[27] Beside acting, Darshana Rajendran has sung the track "Darshana".[28] The track list was revealed on 21 June 2021 on the occasion of World music day.[29] Audio mastering of the film was completed by September 2021. Audio rights of the movie was acquired by Think Music. Hridayam is bringing back audio cassettes and limited edition vinyl records back to India, which was a dream shared by Vineeth, Hesham, and Think Music executives. Since its production was obsolete in the country, Think Music had to partner with a cassette manufacturer in Japan to import its physical copies to India.[30]
It received mostly positive reviews from critics. Rating 3 out of 5 stars, The New Indian Express said that "Vineeth Sreenivasan has structured Hridayam in a way that makes it seem like you're watching two feel-good films for the price of one", and that the film has a therapeutic quality that "makes you feel less embarrassed about the awkward, foolish things you did in the past", and "as a coming-of-age drama, Hridayam is to Vineeth Sreenivasan what Premam was to Alphonse Puthren. (If given a choice, I would easily pick Hridayam over Premam). It's one of those films I wanted to hug once the end credits started rolling", also praised the casting.[34] The Times of India gave a rating of 3.5 on 5 and wrote "Hridayam tries to give a realistic, coming-of-age depiction of a Malayali's campus life in Chennai and those who have done engineering in the city might connect with it the best, thanks to the different moods, flavours and vibes of the city woven into the narrative in a hearty manner ... The movie has an interesting emotional core, brought out by performances of Pranav, Darshana and others, which makes gentle tugs at the viewers' heartstrings".[35] The Week also rated 3.5 out of 5, called it "a coming-of-age drama high on emotions" and stated that "Vineeth Srinivasan is back with a feel-good, new-age drama that most youngsters can relate to ... Arun is safe in the hands of Pranav, who has indeed grown as an actor", also praised the music and cinematography.[36]
Sundar composed the background score for the Tamil musical comedy horror film Devi, which was simultaneously shot and released in Telugu and Hindi as Abhinetri and Tutak Tutak Tutiya, respectively. For Premam, the Telugu remake of the Malayalam film of the same name he collaborated with Rajesh Murugesan, the music director of the original Malayalam film. The film received positive reviews upon release in Telangana.[43] Behindwoods lauded the soundtrack album for "staying true to the original, yet exploring better nuances of music".[44] Sundar composed the only two songs for the Mammootty vehicle The Great Father (2017).[45] Comrade in America, a Malayalam romantic comedy film, saw him reunite with his long-time collaborator, Amal Neerad. The three-song soundtrack, of which two songs were sung by the actor Dulquar Salmaan, was released under Sundar's own record label, Gopi Sundar Music Company.[46] The single "Adiga Adiga" from the Telugu film Ninnu Kori, which was released in July was a hit.[47] Having finished working on Role Models, Tiyaan, Chunkzz, and Udaharanam Sujatha, which garnered good response,[48] his upcoming projects include Kammara Sambhavam and Kayamkulam Kochunni. He won his first Kerala State Film Award for Best Background Music in 2017 for the film Take Off, and his song "Vaanamakalunnuvo" from the film Vimaanam got Sithara her second Kerala State Film Award for Best Singer. His songs from the movie Geetha Govindam also received praise. His latest music work is present in the upcoming film Amala directed by Nishad Ebrahim and Mascot Productions.

Haasan later appeared in the Balachander drama Moondru Mudichu. He appeared in the Malayalam film Eeta, for which he won his sixth Filmfare Award. He first played opposite to the Sridevi in the 1977 Malayalam movie Satyavan Savithri directed by P.G. Viswambharan, this combination was later on well-accepted and celebrated. In the 1979 Telugu film Sommokadidi Sokokadidi, Haasan played two parts. This was also his first collaboration with director Singeetam Srinivasa Rao. He appeared in the musical Ninaithale Inikkum, a snake-horror film Neeya and Kalyanaraman. In 1978, at age 24, Haasan married dancer Vani Ganapathy.[121] She acted with Haasan in the 1975 movie Melnaattu Marumagal. After marriage, Vani worked as Haasan's costume designer for several movies. They divorced ten years later.[citation needed]
Haasan and actress Sarika began living together in 1988, marrying after the birth of their first child, Shruti (born 1986). Shruti is a singer and a Tollywood-Kollywood actress. Their younger daughter, Akshara (born 1991), was assistant director for 2013's Vishwaroopam and actress for 2019's Kadaram Kondan.
